Field Capacity

MOODLE activity 

Feld capacity was always a strange abstract term so was goo to see it in action.

   MEASURING FIELD CAPACITY OF THREE TYPES OF SOIL

1.  clay Soil   

2.  clay soil rich in organic matter.  

3.  soil mixed with woody bark 

* Separate 100ml of each soil type 

* place small piece of cloth/ cotton wool at the beginning of funnel

* put completely dry soil in funnel add 100ml of water to each soil

* wait for an hour or until last drop

then measure field capacity on volume

for example field capacity of sand soil rich in organic matter on volume basis 59% (59 ml of water retained in soil and 42ml collected.

 

RESULTS=

CLAY 29ml.     

CLAY SOIL RICH IN ORGANIC MATTER 72ml  

WOODY SOIL 60ml
